More Than 5 Thousand Medals Have Been Won by the Capital’s Athletes in the Past Year
Over 300 thousand Astana residents regularly go in for sports as informed on the official website of the capital’s akimat.
Over 9 months, the capital’s athletes have won 5 027 medals, including 738 medals at international competitions, 2 704 at national competitions and 1 585 medals at the city competitions, as it is reported by the press service of the city’s Department of Culture and Sport.
Meanwhile, at present, the number of residents systematically engaged in physical training and sports is 307 841 people, or 29% of the total population.
In 2017, this figure was 288 178 people, or 28% of the population.
As of today, there are 719 sports facilities operating in the capital, including 14 large sports complexes.
“This year, the Specialized Paralympic Training Center of international level and “Tarlan” Ice Arena have been commissioned. There is a game sports hall for goalball, sitting volleyball, wheelchair tennis and bocce in the training center; there is a professional powerlifting zone. Adapted training simulators for strength workouts occupy an area of 811 sq. m. The center occupies 423 sq. m. for practicing Para taekwondo,” – added the press service.
This year, 23 sports grounds have been also built inside the courtyards of Astana.
