15 Theaters Will Take Part in “SAMGAU” VII International Theater Festival
From June 10 to 16, the city of Nur-Sultan will host “SAMGAU” VII International Festival of Theatrical Art. The event is held under the support of Nur-Sultan Akimat annually and, traditionally, opens a series of festive events dedicated to the celebration of the Day of the Capital.
“SAMGAU” Theater Week is a long-awaited event for the capital’s connoisseurs of art since the festival brings together the most eminent companies of Kazakhstan and neighboring countries. The guests of the festival present their best performances on the stage of the theaters in Nur-Sultan: Zhastar Theater, the Kazakh Drama Theater and Nomad City Hall Comedy Theater.
This year, the theater week will feature 15 theaters, including 5 theatres of the capital: Zhastar Theater, M. Gorky State Academic Russian Drama Theater, K. Kuanyshbayev Kazakh State Academic Music and Drama Theater, the debutants of “SAMGAU” will be the Comedy Theater of “Nomad City Hall” and the Theater of the Honored Figure of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nurken Oteulov. In addition, at the international festival, Kazakhstan will be represented by N. Pogodin North Kazakhstan Russian Drama Theater (Petropavl), “Zhana Gasyr” Theater (Almaty), Zh. Aimautov Pavlodar Regional Kazakh Music and Drama Theater (Pavlodar), S.Seifullin Regional Kazakh Drama Theater (Karaganda), East Kazakhstan Regional Drama Theater (Oskemen). The foreign participants of the festival are the State Drama Theater of Uzbekistan (Tashkent), “U Mosta” Perm Theater (Russia, Perm), the New Art Theater (Russia, Chelyabinsk), “Pilies” Theater (Lithuania, Klaipeda), B. Kydykeyeva Kyrgyz State Theater for Young Spectators (Kyrgyzstan, Bishkek).
“Aiman-Sholpan”, “The Father”, “Romeo and Juliet”, “Karagoz”, “Venetian Twins”, “Truffaldino, The Servant of Two Masters”, “Leili-Mejnun”, “Dzhut”, “Richard III” requiem and other works will be presented to the audience.

The jury of this festival includes prominent figures of theatrical art, including theater expert, theater critic, playwright, art director of G. Musrepov Kazakh State Academic Theater for Children and Youth, YERKIN ZHUASBEK, art director of K.Kuanyshbayev State Academic Kazakh Music and Drama Theater, director of theater and cinema, People’s Artist of Kazakhstan, TALGAT TEMENOV, Doctor of Art History, theater critic, professor of the Russian Institute of Theatrical Art – GITIS, NINA SHALIMOVA, theater critic, candidate of art history, associate professor of T. Zhurgenov Kazakh National Academy of Arts, ANAR YERKEBAI,
and the Honored Artist of the RSFSR, People’s Artist of Russia, “The Golden Knight” President of the International Film Forum, NIKOLAI BURLYAYEV.
It should be noted that “SAMGAU” International Festival of Theatrical Art has been held in the capital of Kazakhstan since 2010. During this period, the theaters of twelve regions of Kazakhstan, as well as the cities of Aktau, Atyrau, Almaty, Zhezkazgan, Taldykorgan, Turkestan, Oral, Oskemen, Shymkent, Semei were its participants. Foreign theatrical art was represented by the teams of Central Asian countries, Russia, Lithuania, Turkey, Dagestan, Georgia, the Ukraine and Serbia.

On Monday, June 10, 2019, at 17.30, a press conference will be held at Zhastar Theater (10, Yessenberlin St.) to celebrate the opening of “SAMGAU” VII International Theater Festival.
During the press conference, representatives of the participating theaters will talk about the productions they brought as a gift for the Day of the Capital and, in general, about the development of modern theatrical art. Immediately after the press conference, there will be a grand opening of the theater week, which will launch a series of festive events dedicated to the Day of the Capital.
